What’s good enough for royalty is good enough for us.

The best way to celebrate Christmas and New Years’ Eve for us, is to ride Champagne powder in the Austrian Alps! We have the benefit of owning a vacationhome in this beautiful valley called the Stanzertal at the Arlberg ski area. Only a 2-hour journey away from either Zurich or Innsbruck Airport you will find a cosy high-end snow Mecca, with treats for any living soul.  

When winter finally makes its entrance around November, our roofs turn white and the villages look like a fairytale. The options are endless. From easygoing pistes to hardcore mountaineering. All while enjoying, the tasty food in the mountain huts and the wellness in the luxurious apartments. 

Lech am Arlberg, the place where the Dutch Royalty go skiing. This place is a sight for sore eyes! As it’s pretty expensive we only go there to ski. But, on Friday night you will find us on top of Rüfikopf to enjoy a fondue night with the kids. During the day we either go up to ski with the family or get out our splitboards and go touring.  

My partner in crime is a mountain guide so he knows all the cool spots for splitboarding or ski touring. We find magical places with deer and snow rabbits hopping around, an occasional waterfall and white mountaintops in complete serenity. The ultimate place to calm your soul and enjoy the scenery with no one around. Just you and the mountains.  

When the kids are not around, we will have a night out in St Anton am Arlberg. This place has the best après and nightlife! Commonly known by the rich and famous. But also for smaller budgets, you have great places to go. We start with après in Fang House, from there we’ll go see the bands that are playing in Keller Bar and mostly end our night either in Murrmel or Anthony’s.  

But all of these side activities are a sideshow when Mother Earth blesses us with the white gold. While writing this piece, 30cm of snow fell from the sky and then there is only one thing that counts: The numb feeling of my upper lip, while slightly frostbitten, by all the face shots I will endure.
