The Story Behind Haus Arlberg

Book Haus Arlberg

As a former owner of a ski slope in the Netherlands, having been responsible for the Dutch ski test for many years and a teacher at ski instructor training courses, I have always been professionally involved with skiing.

Hello! I am John de Vilder.

We’re glad you’re visiting our website and are interested in who we are and what we can offer you! Thank you!

Moving in nature and gaining and maintaining energy is an essential part of who I am and how I want to live. The simplicity and systemic nature of the mountain environment and its seasons constantly remind me of how everything is interconnected and how important it is to stay balanced.

St. Anton am Arlberg! 'The Cradle' of skiing. I have trained there a lot, and Arlberg often has good and abundant snow. I wanted to settle in such a place. In 1989, I first came to Arlberg to train at the Bundes Sportheim St. Christoph.

From the moment I saw St. Anton, I knew I was in love. The charm of the village, the rich skiing culture, the mountains covered with a blanket of abundant snow, and the challenging ski area—all felt like a warm embrace. The cozy atmosphere, stylish shops, and delightful restaurants make St. Anton a winter sports destination that attracts people from all over the world.

In 2019, we took a significant step by purchasing this property. At that time, it was still a restaurant with apartments above and needed extensive renovation. Together with my co-investor and skiing enthusiast Paul Bondam, we took on the challenge to realize our dream. Our goal was to create something different from standard hotels and apartments. Thus, the idea for our group house emerged, which we furnished with love and attention to coziness, comfort, and atmosphere. We continually strive to maintain the quality and the warm, inviting ambiance that we are so proud of.

The summer in the Alps is a hidden gem that we discovered only later. During a trip from Italy, we fell in love with the mountains in summer. The thrilling rides on the (e-)mountain bike, the refreshing walks through the forests and over the mountain ridges, and the stunning turquoise lakes—it's a paradise. The fresh air and cool nights give you a sense of renewal every morning. Whether you’re on hut hikes, climbing, rafting, or simply enjoying a leisurely swim in the St. Anton pool, the mountains are a serene and inspiring place.

In short, the mountains of Arlberg are a refuge and a source of inspiration for us. They bring so much joy and adventure into our lives, and we hope everyone who comes here feels the same magic—both in winter and summer!

At the last minute: the renovation of Haus Arlberg was completed just before the winter of 2019/2020. The first guests are now staying in our fully renovated house.

My name is Birgit, and I look forward to welcoming you as your hostess at 'Haus Arlberg' in Pettneu. I originally come from the Rhineland region of Cologne and decided to move to the mountains a few years ago for love.

Since I enjoy being around people and find great joy in seeing others happy and content, I will be here to assist you with any questions you may have about our spacious and lovingly managed holiday home. I look forward to meeting you.

Fantastic house! We stayed here during the February holiday with 24 people. Everything was perfectly organized. A great location for a week of skiing

Great, large and above all very nice and cozy house! We rented the house fully occupied by 26 adults for several nights and thanks to the sauna, billiards, cinema room and enough tables, everyone had fun and, above all, enough space - despite two days of rain!

The ski-bus to St Anton is only 50 meters away from the house and brings you in 10 mins to the slopes. And both the owner (John) and host (Birgit) are very pleasant and welcoming.
